The VET Lifestyle Survey allowed those working in the industry to share their innermost thoughts about their day-to-day work lives.

We asked the real questions about frustrations, experiences and challenges to get a better idea about the state of our industry.

Who really runs the show here?

Numbers of male and female CEOs are close, but the majority of managers are female.

Of CEOs surveyed, 45% were male and 55% were female.

Of the RTO and compliance managers who were surveyed, 24% were male and 76% were female.

QUALITY IS VET’S biggest challenge

No matter their role, industry, or state, everyone agreed on the same thing.

Quality across training organisations is seen as our industry’s pitfall, with 36.7% of respondents saying that it’s the biggest challenge facing VET.

Funding and maintaining up-to-date curriculum design is also seen as a major challenge.

Trainers in NSW had the highest average salary across Australia, while construction trainers outearn those in other industries.

On average, trainers in NSW made 11.2% more than trainers in other states.

Trainers working in the construction industry had the highest average wage of $83,570.

Facebook is the app of choice within the industry, but Twitter is loved most by compliance managers.

54% of people surveyed said Facebook is the one app they can’t live without.

Twitter was most popular among compliance managers, and Instagram was least loved by trainers.

WHO'S THE HAPPIEST?

Male CEOs in the construction training industry are the happiest people in VET.

Of those who were surveyed:

  • Males scored 0.01 higher happiness level than females
  • CEOs were the happiest across roles with a score of 7.4 out of 10
  • Those in the construction training industry were the happiest with an average score of 7.1 out of 10
