Why training organisations need to be able to provide blended learning now

January 7, 2022

2022 has had an interesting start, to say the least. We’re now living with COVID-19 in a way which Australia hasn’t before, and adapting rapidly to these changes.

With new variants of COVID-19 making everything even more unpredictable for vocational education and training, one thing an increasing number of training organisations are implementing is blended learning.

What is blended learning?

Blended learning is a combination of both digital learning and in-class, face-to-face learning. The amount of each component in a course can vary.

Why should you use blended learning now?

#1 – It’s what learners expect

We know that today’s learners have high expectations for their learning experience from the training providers they choose. Plus, many learners are digitally savvy and expect their training provider to be too. Providing high quality blended and online learning will set your organisation ahead of the rest when it comes to attracting new learners and engaging current learners by providing autonomy and flexibility to the learning experience.

Additionally, with more and more workers needing to upskill and reskill alongside the demands of their jobs, working learners will naturally choose a training organisation that suits their needs and lifestyle.

Being able to learn anywhere and at any time is attractive for learners everywhere, and your RTO should be meeting these expectations with blended learning.

#2 – Accessibility for international learners

With the unpredictability of COVID-19, there’s been a hesitant and uncertain return of international learners to Australia. It’s been a difficult time for CRICOS and ELICOS providers, but many have been agile and pivoted to online learning. As we start to see more international learners return, being able to provide blended learning is paramount.

#3 Flexibility and agility

Two years ago, none of us were expecting a global pandemic to happen. We can’t predict the future, but we can prepare the best we can for it. For training providers, being prepared for external changes with blended learning will ensure your business is able to have an agile response while reducing disruption to business growth and your learners' training experience.

What you need to provide high quality blended learning now

One of the most crucial things your training organisation needs to succeed in providing blended learning is a good training management system. A solution that provides both a student management system and a learning management system all in one will give you the right tools to achieve this. The benefits of a one system SMS and LMS also means easier and faster compliance and reporting, as all information is stored in one place. Plus, you’ll only be paying for one core SMS/LMS rather than two or more separate systems with clunky integrations.
